OUR STORY

Here in Aotearoa, we’ve got it pretty good – a land of plenty, bright skies, open spaces, free spirits and real community goodness. We’re all about finding joy in doing things the Kiwi way, and our coffee is no exception.

From 1995 until now, that’s been our continued focus and we’re stoked to have a strong family of café partners across New Zealand dedicated to the same goal.

So, whether you’re in the remotes of Northland, trekking the hills of the South Island or sunning it up on one of our country’s fine beaches, look out for our Halo. We’d love you to take a sip.

Our coffee enjoyed your way!

OUR COFFEE BLENDS

Coffee is pretty personal stuff. Some like it strong and punchy, others prefer a smooth and creamy cup. Either way, we’ve hand-picked our coffee beans from suppliers across the globe, roasting them to their best on our Loring Smart Roaster in Avondale, West Auckland, to create a handful of blends for you to try:

What’s your brew?

At Halo Coffee, we like to celebrate all things coffee and there are a LOT of different ways you can enjoy your brew. Whether it is to kick start your day or just for the love of it, everyone has their favourite. The majority of our Halo Coffee family usually default to a classic kiwi flat white (double shot of course!).  But with sooo many options out there we have done our best to explain the ones you may come across the most:

Espresso style coffee

ESPRESSO

Forming the base of all coffee beverages and also known as a short black, this basic way of drinking coffee is anything but basic. It’s the purest way to drink your coffee and surprising difficult to get right. We are just grateful that we have a few of these masters within our Halo family!

Fun fact: We’ve heard that you need around 45 coffee beans to produce a single shot of espresso.

Classic Flat White coffee

FLAT WHITE

Firmly standing as a Kiwi classic (those pesky Aussies aren’t claiming this one as their own). Although traditionally a double shot of espresso, this delicious drop of heaven combines steamed milk and a very thin layer of foam.

Fun fact: Like us, this is 100% Kiwi (although we may be a little biased).

Macchiato

MACCHIATO

Usually served in an espresso cup, and combines a shot of espresso topped off with some foamed milk.

Fun fact: Macchiato means ‘marked’ in Italian, due to the espresso shot being ‘marked’ with the foamed milk.

Long Black style coffee

LONG BLACK

Starting with hot water and adding 2 shots of espresso.

Fun fact: The folks of Finland drink the most coffee of any country in the world, however they mostly drink filter not these tasty wee numbers!

Cappuccino style coffee

CAPPUCCINO

A shot of espresso, steamed milk, a thick layer of foam, then topped with a sprinkle of chocolate powder or sometimes cinnamon.

Fun fact: Traditionally drunk at breakfast, ‘Cappuccino' takes its name from the Capuchin friars: the color of the espresso mixed with frothed milk was similar to the color of the Capuchin robe. The thick foam also acts as an excellent insulator to keep the glorious liquid beneath nice and hot.

Mocha

MOCHA

A Mocha or Mochaccino, is similar to a cappuccino, with the addition of chocolate powder or syrup to create a delicious coffee/chocolately treat, sometimes they are also topped with whipped cream.

Fun fact: The word Mocha didn’t originally have anything to do with chocolate or a coffee/chocolate combo, it was a variety of coffee bean which was around in the late 1700’s.

Americano style coffee

AMERICANO

The ‘Americanisation’ of the classic Italian espresso. Either a single or double shot of espresso with ‘lots’ of hot water.

Fun fact: apparently American soldiers stationed in Italy influenced this drink – having never had espresso coffee before, this was the closest to the filter coffee from home they missed.

Latte

LATTE

Consisting of steamed milk and a shot of espresso with a decent amount of foam, this delicious creation is usually served in a glass.

Fun fact: you may also see this called a Café Latte or Café au lait on your travels as the translation for Latte just means milk!

Chai Latte Coffee

CHAI LATTE

Although it doesn’t contain coffee, this mix of tea and spices and steamed milk is a great alternative if you are looking for a lower caffeine hit.

Fun fact: Although around in the 1960’s, the Chai latte only really started to gain popularity in the 1990’s as it was picked up by several global coffee chains.
